Five of BCCI’s centrally contracted cricketers, including Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul, have been issued notices by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for failing to disclose their whereabouts. The board, on the other hand, has cited “password glitch” as the reason for the delay, the PTI reported on Saturday (June 13).

The other two players who have received the notice are Women’s T20I vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and star allrounder Deepti Sharma, among the 110-strong National Registered Testing Pool (NRTP).

Navin Agarwal, Director General of NADA, confirmed sending out notices to which BCCI’s official explanation was a password glitch on the site while filling out the forms on behalf of the said players. “Well they have given an explanation which appears to be reasonable but a decision will be taken. They have said that there has been a glitch with regards to password in ADAMS. Now they have said that issue has been resolved,” Agarwal added.

The NADA head further stated that the doping agency is yet to decide on whether this could have any repercussions or not. “BCCI’s explanation will be discussed as to whether it will be counted as one of three filing failures or not. It will be decided on the explanation given and how they (BCCI) proceed from here.”

Players have two options to update their whereabouts – either they do it themselves on the site or their concerned federation(s) files it on their behalf, like in the case of the BCCI.

Even though there had been a nation-wide lockdown of over two months and cricket brought to a halt mid-March, the rule to submit players’ whereabouts was obligatory despite the unprecedented circumstances. Three counts of such failures can lead to one Anti Doping Rule Violation (ADRV), which in turn could result in a suspension of up to two years upon hearing.
