Former Supreme Court judge DK Jain will continue serving in the dual role of BCCI’s ombudsman and ethics after getting a one-year extension on his term from the board last week.

Jain was first appointed by the Supreme Court in February 2019 as BCCI’s first ever ombudsman. He later got a role expansion, and doubled up as the board’s ethics officer as well. Three months after his term ended, on February 29, Jain’s contract was last week renewed by the BCCI for another term.

“I resumed office last week and it is another one-year term as ethics officer and ombudsman.” Jain was quoted as saying by PTI. “Considering the COVID-19 situation, I will be conducting hearings virtually.”

Among Jain’s pending cases are the still awaited verdict on the conflict of interest accusations against Mayank Parikh, a former liaison officer of the Indian cricket team. Parikh allegedly ran six clubs in Mumbai. “Parikh’s case has been pending and expect it to be closed shortly,” Jain added.

Jain took office in 2019 had started his term with the infamous talk show controversy involving Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. During his tenure, Jain also presided over the conflict of interest cases involving former Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and now BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

The other conflict of cases involved former World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, Shantha Rangaswamy. Former India captain Rahul Dravid, too, was called up for hearing following similar charges shortly after he took over as the Director of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
