Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir and middle-order batsman Haris Sohail will not be travelling to England for the upcoming tour, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Thursday (June 11). While Amir has made himself unavailable as he is anticipating the birth of his second child in August, Sohail has withdrawn citing personal reasons.

The series will take place in August and September following West Indies’ tour of England that will mark the resumption of cricket after almost four months following the coronavirus outbreak. Amir and Sohail are the second set of high profile players to avoid the tour following the withdrawal of the West Indies trio recently.

Amir, who wasn’t offered a central contract by the PCB for the 2020-21 season, was in contention to play the T20I matches whereas Sohail would have fancied himself to be present in the squad for both the T20Is and the Tests.

The PCB also announced that it will be sending 28 players and 14 player support personnel for the tour that will see Pakistan playing three Tests and three T20Is. This support staff will include former cricketers Younis Khan and Mushtaq Ahmed, who have recently been confirmed as the batting and spin bowling coach respectively.
