Turkey : Bells of danger are ringing in agriculture

CHP Tekirdağ Deputy Dr. İlhami Özcan Aygun said that farmers should be given urgent support to avoid food shortages in the epidemic of the corona virus.

Indicating that if the farmer is not supported, the risk of starving as a society will be faced, Aygun said that this year there will be problems in potato and rice production and that the danger bells have started to ring in wheat.

There is a risk of food scarcity

Dr. Aygun said that while the corona virus epidemic should be supported by farmers in order to avoid food shortages, the farmer was sentenced to hunger, 2020 agricultural support should be given, while payments in 2019 could be made more recently, and those payments were blocked in banks to receive support from farmers with electricity debts.

Aygün stated that they could not get the support of diesel oil, fertilizer, premium or cut off in return for their debt, since they were blocked because they could not earn money. Aygun said, “The farmer is in a dead end with the corona virus epidemic.

The farmer in debt-fee now has to cover hygiene costs. After the health sector, the most vital sector is the food sector. “If we don’t support the farmer, we will be hungry, soon everyone will understand when the shelves are empty.”

RICE IN RICE AND PATATHE

This year, CHP Tekirdağ Millevtekili Aygun, who warned that there may be up to 20 percent product loss in potatoes due to cold, low rainfall and drought, stated that rice production is not allowed in paddy fields in Thrace due to water shortage and drought.

Aygun said, “Our country, which is a net importer of rice, faces the risk of not importing from abroad in the epidemic environment. All countries are concerned with the satisfaction of their own country’s wife. ”
