Turkey : May 1 wreath was torn to Taksim Square

DİSK executives, who came together in the headquarters building of the Revolutionary Trade Unions Confederation (DİSK) in Beşiktaş Dikilitaş, wanted to go to Taksim for the May Day celebration with their deputies.

The police prevented the community leaving the building on May 1, marching to Taksim, citing the restrictions imposed by the epidemic.

The police, who intervened in the group, detained 15 union managers, including DISK Chairman Arzu Çerkezoğlu.

DİSK cortege, where President Çerkezoğlu and 15 friends were taken into custody, then went to Taksim Square with their broken garlands. The group left the wreath to Taksim Monument.

Speaking here, HDP Istanbul deputy Oya Ersoy criticized the detention of Çerkezoğlu and DİSK executives.

Ersoy said, “A limited number of DİSK delegations who set out to take this wreath here were detained and seriously battered. We came here on behalf of DISK, KESK, TMMOB and all labor components. ”
