Turkey : CHP’s Karaca: Palace ignores farmer

CHP Vice President for Natural Rights Gülizar Biçer Karaca visited farmers in Denizli’s Tavas and Baklan districts and listened to their troubles.

Hoeing beets, tomatoes and anise with seasonal agricultural workers, Karaca said, “Our women of agricultural workers are working with insecure, low wage daily.”

Stating that the debts should be erased in order for the farmers to continue their production, Karaca said, “According to the law enacted in 2006, at least 1 percent of the national income would be supported every year. The support has never found 1 percent. The resource allocated for agricultural support in the past 13 years has been half of its gross national product instead of one percent. The palace continues to ignore the farmer. The state owes the farmer, “he said.

“ERASE THE FARMERS ‘DEBTS”

Biçer Karaca stated once again that it was understood that self-sufficiency in agriculture was very important during the corona epidemic.

Drawing attention to the importance of policies to protect farmers, Karaca said, “According to last year’s data, our 2 million 260 thousand farmers registered in the Farmer Registration System owe 119 billion lira to banks and 10 billion lira to Agricultural Credit Cooperative. How will the farmer in debt swamp produce? Erase farmers’ debts to banks and credit cooperatives. At least agricultural insurance premiums must be paid from the treasury. ”
