Turkey : The first organ transplant at Akdeniz University during the pandemic process

Organ transplants have been suspended for a while due to the corona virus at AU Hospital, which has made its name known to the world with its success in organ transplants. After entering the new normalization process at AU Hospital, organ transplants that require emergency conditions started.

Successful kidney transplantation was carried out within the scope of corona virus measures in the hospital, the operating room reserved exclusively for organ transplantation. Before the transplant, the patient Ahmet Yılmaz was tested 3 times for corona virus for precautionary purposes. Yilmaz, who had negative test results, was immediately taken to surgery after the last controls. Ahmet Yilmaz, who is alive with the kidney he received from his brother Cihat Yilmaz, has recovered.

3 TIMES CORONA VIRUS TESTED

Explaining that he had been suffering from kidney disease for 4 years, Ahmet Yılmaz said that he had been in a transplant state due to the increase of his ailments recently. Yılmaz said, “I had great fears during the pandemic process. I was very hesitant about whether to be transplanted. My teachers encouraged me. I saw the hospital maximizing corona virus measures.

Three corona virus tests were done to me before the operation. My surgery was very successful, I was very satisfied. I definitely recommend those who are in my position, waiting for transplant to come to this center. ”

NOW THE CHILDREN TRAINED IN THE HOSPITAL HAS UNDERSTANDED BETTER

Stating that he is a teacher of patients with leukemia, awaiting oncology and transplantation at Necmettin Erbakan University Meram Medical Faculty Hospital, Ahmet Yılmaz said, “I give education to the children who stay in the hospital for a long time every day. I understand my kidney transplant students better now. I’m in the same position with them. I believe that now I will look at them differently. I lived what they experienced, ”he said.

He donated his brother to his brother

Cihat Yılmaz said, “I saved a life, a life. We recover within 4-5 days. I have no problems. My health is as good as before. I invite everyone to donate organs. There is nothing to be afraid of. Save lives, save lives. ”

THE DISAPPEARED PATIENT IS DISCHARGED IN 4 DAYS

Professor of AU Hospital Transplant Unit and General Surgeon Department. Dr. İsmail Demiryılmaz stated that they will discharge the donor Cihat Yılmaz in 4 days after organ transplantation. Professor Dr. Demiryılmaz said, “The purpose of organ transplants with live donors is to heal a patient. For this, not every person can be a donor. Other adaptations are required, not just tissue compatibility. The receiver and the transmitter must be suitable for the transport. Transplant operations of patients who are accepted as appropriate take place. We had a successful operation. The condition of our transmitter is also very good. ”

ALL RISK FUNCTIONS INQUIRED IN TERMS OF PANDEMI

AU Hospital Organ Transplant Unit and Faculty of Nephrology, Assoc. Dr. Vural Taner Yılmaz explained that Ahmet Yılmaz, who underwent kidney transplantation, regained his health. Stating that transplantation has new rules and conditions during the pandemic process, Assoc. Dr. Yılmaz said:

“By scanning the literature studies conducted to date, we have conducted a detailed study for us to perform the operations according to the patient’s characteristics under which conditions of kidney transplantation. We started kidney transplantation in our hospital, considering that we were eligible, with few cases. Our Ministry of Health has also allowed us to undergo kidney transplantation to patients who have not received dialysis. When we contacted Ahmet Bey, we questioned all risk factors for the pandemic for the recipient and transmitter. If there is no problem in the results, we start the kidney transplant preparations. We did not have any problems in Ahmet Bey. ”

‘WE STARTED ORGAN SHIPPING OPERATIONS’

AU Hospital Organ Transplant Unit Specialist Öğr. See. Nilgün Bilal explained that they had a quick start to organ transplants in the new normalization process. Stating that the number of cases in Antalya is in a very good condition during the Corona virus process, Bilal stated that serious measures were taken at AU Hospital during this period. Stating that there was a pause in organ transplant operations during the pandemic process, Nilgün Bilal said:

“This has stopped both in our hospital and around the world. Because during this period, it was risky to transfer patients. We could only transplant to patients requiring emergencies. Rather than doing new transplants, we tried to keep our transplanted and organ transplant patients safely in their homes. We continued the follow-up of patients through online, social media.

We only took patients with special conditions to our outpatient clinics under high security measures. We have come safely to this day. After that, we are now returning to the new normal process. According to the new guidelines published by the Ministry of International and Health, we have carried out kidney transplantation with 2 live donors within the scope of high safety importance. We brought both of them to discharge. Our patients who are waiting for transplantation can apply to our center within the precautions. ” DHA
