The debates about removing Hagia Sophia from museum status and re-opening it as a mosque flared up when AKP brought the issue back to the agenda.
IYI Party, which brought the discussions to the TBMM agenda as a group proposal, suggested that Hagia Sophia be reopened for worship.
After the speeches of the party representatives, the proposal was rejected by the votes of AKP deputies.
Making a statement after the rejection vote, AKP Group Deputy Chairman Mehmet Muş made a statement saying, “We are giving a rejection vote for now, but we will take the necessary steps in July”.
