Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) launched a donation campaign with the slogan of “We will succeed together” to help the needy and elderly citizens, healthcare workers and patients living in Istanbul yesterday against the corona virus epidemic that shook the world.
Announcing the campaign from his social media account, İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu said, “Istanbul will overcome this process by displaying a great example of solidarity. Join our support and donation campaign. ” İmamoğlu also shared the account numbers opened at 4 banks to collect donations.
MINISTRY OF INTERIOR PUBLISHED BY GENERAL
Today, with the signature of the Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, an article on “gathering aid” was sent to the governorships of 81 provinces, the General Directorate of Security and the Gendarmerie General Command.
In the article, it was stated that institutions, foundations and associations, especially some local governments, have started a fundraising activity by declaring some accounts without any permission despite the clear provisions of the Law No. 2860 on Fundraising.
It was noted that local governments were not exempt from the Fund of Acquisition: The following statements were made: “Within this framework, the mentioned Law on those who do not carry out activities in accordance with the legislation despite the warnings of the said institutions, associations and foundations in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Acquisition. The necessary actions will be taken within the framework of the provisions of the article “The aid collection activities initiated without permission are prohibited by the security forces and prosecution is made about those responsible”.
GOVERNOR’S MOVEMENT
After the letter from the Ministry, it was learned that the Istanbul Governorship requested that the accounts be blocked by sending letters to the banks where the IMM opened an account for donations.
Upon this, donation accounts opened by IMM were frozen. According to the information obtained, no letter from the governorship was sent to the IMM Directorate. Based on the letter he sent to the banks, it was learned that IMM would send an answer letter to the Istanbul Governorship.
İMAMOĞLU SAYS “WE HAVE LEGAL AUTHORITY”
Today, İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu, by publishing an announcement on the subject from the social media account, emphasized that municipalities have the right to receive donations according to the law and said, “I respectfully announce that those who want to donate can deposit money in the municipality’s accounts in every way.”
