The crisis of determining the successor of Prime Minister Adil Abdülmehdi, who resigned in November 2019 due to public protests that started in October last year in Iraq, is not resolved. At the beginning of last February, the vote of confidence for the cabinet of Muhammed Allavi, who was commissioned to form a government by Iraqi President Berhem Salih, was postponed for the second time in a week.
According to the statement made by the Iraqi Prime Ministry Office, it was stated that the news that the political parties demanded from Abdülmehdi to carry out his duties do not reflect the necessity, “Abdülmehdi will announce his position on the matter with an official statement after the deadline set up to form a government tomorrow.”
The Alliance of Iraqi Powers, headed by Parliament Speaker Halbusi, asked for the replacement of Allawi, who was tasked with establishing a government. The Sunni and the Kurds do not support Allawi, who has received the support of Mukteda Sadr and Hadi Amiri, the winner of the Iraqi elections. (IHA)
