Turkey : Greek flag hung on minaret of historical mosque in Dimetoka

The Greek flag has been hung by the unidentified people in the minaret of the 579-year-old Çelebi Sultan Mehmet Mosque, located in Dimetoka, Greece, opposite the town of Uzunköprü in Edirne and waiting to be restored.

With the warning of those who realized that the flag was hung, municipal officials lowered the Greek flag from the minaret.

INQUIRY STARTED

Dimetoka Mayor Ramilos Haciyannoğlu said in a statement to the Greek media that the flag was not in the minaret on Friday evening, and that the incident occurred against Saturday or morning.

Haciyannoğlu stated that the flag was lowered upon being noticed and the police started an investigation into the incident. DHA
