Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) went to a special arrangement for burial operations of those who lost their lives due to the corona virus. Burials started to be directed to Kilyos Cemetery on the European Side and Beykoz Upper Baklaci Cemetery on the Anatolian Side to minimize the risk.

HOW ARE FUNERAL PROCEDURES PERFORMED?
With the beginning of the increase in deaths related to the Corona cases, İBB Cemeteries Department Head Ayhan Koç told SÖZCÜ how the funeral procedures were made. Koç, as in other death cases, said that when the patient died in corona deaths, a death report was issued in the hospital and the procedures started when the report fell into the system of the Cemeteries Directorate.
“WE TAKE MEASURES LIKE HEALTHCARE”
Koç said that after the document fell on the system, the cemetery directorate staff went to the hospital or home, took the funeral and took it to the gas station, and that the washing and shrouding was done.
Koç said, “Our staff works with glasses, visors, overalls and gloves in every gas shop. We are taking the same precautions taken by the healthcare professionals. ” Expressing that the personnel working in burials performed this way at every funeral, Koç said, “He died in a traffic accident but could be a carrier of the virus. We are being cautious in all of them. ”
THE FOUNDATION PRAYER IS NOT EXPECTED
Koç stated that the time prayer is not expected during the funeral and said, “Previously, at noon and afternoon, funeral prayers were performed before. In accordance with the social distance, funeral prayers are performed with the participation of his own family. We do not have to restrict participation, generally the family pays attention and there is not much participation ”. Koç also said that no one was taken from his relatives to the funeral vehicle due to the epidemic.
2 CEMETERY LOCATION DETERMINED
If there is a family cemetery, Koç said that the burial was carried out there. The aim is to reduce the risk for the living. ”
Why is it buried by coffin?
Expressing that the only difference from the Corona cases was burial with coffins, Koç explained the reason as follows;
“Because we will not use that coffin again because of the risk of infectious disease. We’ll burn it later. People who touch the coffin may be infected. There is no risk of contamination of soil. Instead of putting the board, we bury it with coffins. ”
DEATH AT HOME
Koç stated that a doctor’s report is required to get the funeral for deaths at home. As in normal death, the district municipality, the district governor or the police are informed. The death report is being created and we are informed at that point. We cannot get to the funeral without a death report. ”
NUMBER OF STAFF INCREASED
Emphasizing that the number of personnel working in burials has been increased, Koç continued as follows:
“The service before the epidemic continues to be better. We have no problems in the ongoing system. Our emergency action plans are ready. The Directorate of Cemeteries has 2,500 staff. 10-15 personnel work from the office staff who make correspondence from the beginning to the end of a funeral, gassala, imama, carrier, driver, excavators. “
