The death penalty under the age of 18, which has been imposed for a long time in Saudi Arabia, was repealed by the royal decree issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
Saudi officials stated that someone who commits a crime when he is under 18 cannot be executed by decree, while children who commit a crime under 18 will be imprisoned in detention facilities, but not more than 10 years.
The abolition of the death penalty for offenders under 18 in Saudi Arabia has become the second major judicial reform in the past week to comply with international human rights standards. (IHA)
