The harvest period of the new crop is approaching in Malatya, which is a leader in the export of dried apricots to different countries of the world every year. However, this year, it is known that apricot was affected in many regions due to hail and agricultural frost events.
TZOB Board Member and Malatya Chamber of Agriculture Coordination Board Chair Yunus Kılınç stated that, as in every year, low yields are expected this year due to excessive precipitation, agricultural frost and some agricultural diseases due to climate change as a result of global warming. .
Stating that this will cause an increase in apricot prices, Kılınç said, “Our apricot will find the value it deserves with the support purchase and base price explanation that our Ministry of Agriculture will make this year through the Turkish Grain Board (TMO). Our apricot producer, who is crushed under the debt burden, will hopefully take a breath. Our product, which has been exported to $ 3.5 as a result of games and speculations played on apricot for years, is bought from the farmer at $ 1.5. While our farmers could not afford their labor and lost each year, even half of the price of dried apricots exported to 100 thousand tons was not reflected to the productive producer. The producer must be able to afford his labor. ” (IHA)
