Turkey : The first cherry of the season came out from 400 TL

The producers living in Manisa Sancaklı Bozköy District went to their gardens in the early morning and collected the early varieties of “Cristobalina” cherries from the trees. Farmers wore masks and harvested this year because of the Corona virus outbreak. Producer Metin Koyuncu collected 15 kilos of early cherries from his field and brought them to the market.

SOCIAL DISTANCE SALE

Producers and buyers who collected the first cherry of the season paid attention to selling by paying attention to social distance rules. Producer Metin Koyuncu asked for a price of one thousand liras for the first cherry of the season. After the negotiations, the weight of the early cherry was bought by the cherry buyer İbrahim Bodur for 400 liras.

It was seen that manufacturers and sellers wore masks due to the corona virus outbreak. İbrahim Bodur stated that the prices in the first sale are symbolic and that the prices will decrease in the coming days, “We have given such a price to encourage our producer because it is the first cherry. There is a virus on our agenda, I hope we will survive these difficult days together. We take care of social distance and wearing a mask as much as we can. The first cherry will be sold at the markets in Istanbul. This year is very good in terms of yield and quality. There is no problem in our fruits. I hope our foreign market will also be nice. We think that in the coming days, the consumer can consume the cherry’s weight around 15-20 pounds. ”

HIGHLY RECORDED

Noting that the cherry harvest was made earlier in the past years, but the harvest was delayed due to the cooler weather this year, the producer Metin Koyuncu stated that the yield was high this year.

Koyuncu said, “We made the first harvest of the Northern Hemisphere. We made the first sale last year on April 14. This cherry is referred to as the first early cherry. This is the earliest cherry place in the Northern Hemisphere. Cherry is a tree that requires attention, we care like our child all year round. Our yield is quite high this year. Our trees made a beautiful fruit set, ”he said.

EARLY CHERRY GOES TO EXPORT

Stating that the first cherries came out, but the cherries, which are abundant to the consumer’s table, will reach 15-20 days later, Koyuncu said, “Since the early cherries are not very much, they are exported completely. Our cherries were sent to Sudan, Qatar, China, Germany last year. However, we know that connections have been made to Russia, Germany and England for this year. When other types of cherries appear in the domestic market, they appear abundantly on the tables. It is said that the corona virus outbreak will not affect exports much. Because workers cannot work side by side due to social distance rules, they must work in larger areas. ”

DOWNLOAD THROUGH 20 LIRAS

Expressing that the cost of a kilo of cherry varies between 13 and 15 pounds, Koyuncu said that they expect the prices to be high this year.

Producer Koyuncu said: “One kilo of cherry should not fall below 20 lira in the domestic market so that the producer makes money. The weight of the cherries going to export was around 25-30 lira last year. Hopefully this coronavirus will end, prices will be high. We want the cherries to export not to go down 50 liras. ”

FERTILIZER AND WORKING EXPENSIVE

Stating that cherry producers are expecting a great deal this year due to the Corona virus, Koyuncu stated that although the yield is good this year, they have a worker shortage especially in collection.

Producer Koyuncu stated the following in his statement; “Our costs are increasing every year. Fertilizer, diesel oil is expensive. In particular, workers’ wages were also expensive this year. We are having trouble finding workers due to Corona virus. I don’t know how to do these things this year because of the virus. ”
