ABOUT FOOD ALLERGY
Food allergy is an immune system reaction that occurs by our immune system immediately after eating a particular food. The development of food allergy begins with the fact that our immune system perceives proteins in foods as a threat and produces IgE-type antibodies against them. When sensitive individuals encounter the same nutrients, they bind to previously formed IgE antibodies and cause many substances, mainly histamine, to be released from mast cells. Clinical findings develop depending on the effects of these substances.
Food allergies are more of a problem in childhood. In babies who are breastfed, the period after starting supplementary foods may appear as urticaria, rash or eczema on the skin.
Most food allergies develop against the following foods. However, it should be remembered that allergic reactions can develop against every food consumed.
– Cow milk
– Egg
– The fish
– Peanut
– Nuts (nuts, walnuts, pistachios, etc.)
– shellfish
– Soy
– Wheat
– Pulses
– Sesame
In adults, most food allergies are triggered by some proteins in the following situations:
– Shellfish such as shrimp, lobster and crab
– Peanut
– Walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, pistachios
– The fish
It is easy to confuse food allergy with a much more common reaction known as food intolerance. Although uncomfortable, food intolerance is a less serious condition that does not involve the immune system.

WHAT ARE THE FOOD ALLERGY SYMPTOMS?
For some people, an allergic reaction to a particular food can be bothersome, but not severe. For other people, an allergic food reaction can be scary and even life threatening. Food allergy symptoms usually develop within a few minutes to two hours after eating foods that cause allergies.
The most common food allergy signs and symptoms include:
Tingling or itching in the mouth
Hives, itching or eczema
Swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, or other parts of the body
Sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, nasal discharge or shortness of breath
– Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting
– Dizziness or fainting
Anaphylaxis
In some people, a food allergy can trigger a serious allergic reaction called anaphylaxis.
This can cause life-threatening signs and symptoms, including:
– Narrowing and tightening of the airways
Feeling of a swollen throat or lump in your throat that makes it hard to breathe
– shock with a serious drop in blood pressure
– Fast pulse
– Dizziness, dizziness or loss of consciousness
Emergency treatment is important for anaphylaxis. If left untreated, anaphylaxis can cause coma or even death.
