Turkey : $ 16.2 million ‘mischief’ and ‘loss’ investigation against Melih Gökçek

Old Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Melih Gökçek An investigation was launched on the grounds that it caused 16 million 241 thousand 345 dollars of damage. Investigators; despite the privatization decision Belbeton A.Ş.revealed that millions of investments were made in Turkey, and the profit to be given to the municipality was added to the capital of the company with the decision of the parliament.

SHOWN LOW intentionally

In the inspection report, it was also emphasized that the private firm, Detay Danışmanlık A.Ş, which determined the value of Belbeton, which was privatized in 2012, had a business relationship with the municipality and its affiliated companies, and the company has deliberately lowered the sales price. In the report, it was stated that Melih Gökçek caused a serious public loss with the municipal committee making the sale within the scope of privatization.

TRANSFERED TO THE COMPANY’S CAPITAL

The investigation revealed that the municipality invested 11 million TL ($ 8.5 million at the current rate) for the border and cobblestone production facility in 2007-2008, before the company was privatized for $ 12 million. In addition, according to the protocol between the municipality and Belbeton, it was determined that although the company should pay 50 percent of its year-end profit to the municipality, the share of approximately 5 million TL, half of its profit, was added to the company’s equity by the decision of the parliament.

1.5 BILLION LIRAL TENDER

Although Belbeton is foreseen to sell 145 million TL (71 million dollars according to the dollar rate at that time) between 2011 and 2015, it is more than 10 times of the sales amount to the company and 1.5 billion TL (approximately 732 million dollars) between the same years by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. It turned out that a tender was awarded.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY AND GÖKÇEK AND THE SON

In this way, the privatization of Belbeton was financed by municipal resources, and the rest was unfair. It was also emphasized that in a notice made to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, there were signs such as claiming that there was a close relationship between the owner of the firm and Melih Gökçek and his son.

It was learned that the file was sent to the legal counsel for the compensation of 16 million 241 thousand 345 dollars loss from Melih Gökçek, the committees, bureaucrats, approval authorities and Detay Danışmanlık A.Ş.
