China’s Wuhan city of the emerging coronavirus outbreak also seen in Turkey after the measures taken has increased.
Fire measurements started to be made in public areas such as airports, shopping malls and businesses. There are many types of thermometers according to their usage and area.
“HIGH FIRE MAY NOT BE VISIBLE”
Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist who gives information about the symptoms of Corona virus. Dr. Çağrı Büke used the following statements;
* 86 percent of coronavirus cases have high fever but there may be cases where there is no fever. We may not see high fever, especially in children, young adults, maybe even the elderly.
* The fever here is mostly 38.5 and above, but it may be the case when the body temperature is much lower than 37.5-38. Usually the thermal imager or gauges can detect 38 and above. There is a situation that we call subfebrile fever between 37.5 and 38.
* They may not be able to detect them when there are no 38 degrees or more. Also, it is not possible to see fever in every case. Of course, thermal cameras can measure the fire of more than one person under the conditions of public places, but instruments that measure from the ear at home can be used by changing the tip or can be measured with digital thermometers.
“IF THERE IS NO FIRE, THIS MAY NOT MEAN“ Nothing ”
Professor Dr. Noting that Büke may have come out using a thermometer, he said:
* After the thermometers have been subjected to various tests that have been standardized and calibrated, they have been released to the market with some documents.
* Therefore, if their maintenance and controls are done periodically, there is no problem with them, but thermal cameras, for example, usually detect 38 degrees and above.
* But under normal conditions, our body temperature is normal up to 37.5 degrees. Therefore, we are talking about a height of fever, even if it is subfebrile between 37.5 and 38 degrees.
* It may not be possible to detect this with the thermal meter. Infrared thermometers or temperature meters also measure 38 degrees and above. 37.5 to 38 degrees, if not detectable, this may be overlooked at the beginning.
* If people already have a high fever, if they feel well enough to go out, they have probably used antipyretic drugs and went out like that.
* Maybe he actually had a 38.5 degree fever 2-3 hours ago, but he may not have a fever as he passes there. Thermal cameras or thermometers make sense in public areas, if the person has a high fever at that moment, but this may not mean that he has nothing if he does not have a fever.
* While looking for a coronavirus infection, fever is important, but its absence is not an indication of this.
“If the device is 38 DEGREES and above, we cannot say no fire”
Professor Dr. Büke said that people can measure behind-the-ear degrees at home and continued his words as follows;
* Thermal cameras are used to scan a large number of people in very large areas, but the ideal is to use tympanic (behind the ear) grades.
* If it is not available, we can use thermometers measuring under the tongue or under the armpit. However, since it is also difficult to hold individual individuals under the armpits or behind the ears, measurements are made collectively with thermal.
* The sensitivity of the device is very important in batch measurements. If it can detect 37.5 and above, it is okay, but if it detects 38 and above, we cannot say ‘no fire’.
* We cannot say ‘normal’ between 37.5 and 38 degrees. Especially in such a period, it is not possible to reject this fever by saying “it is not fever due to coronaviral infection”. DHA
